Concerning 1 Corinthians 11:10

There has been much controversy surrounding the issue of what Paul was getting at concerning a woman’s hair in the book of I Corinthians Chapter 11 which reads:

“1Co 11:10 For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.”

The word that Paul is using in the Greek means “mastery” or “delegated influence”. It is a choice on the woman’s part to possess and seize an opportunity to have influence by way of displaying DISTINCTION.

Below I’d like to explore and share in more detail concerning this matter:

On the topic of HAIR in I Corinthians 11:10 the scripture is aiming to make a distinction both in roles and in distinguishing strength sources found in the manner in which ministry is illustrated. Unless we make a distinction between the man and woman, whereas in today’s society the lines are blurred or at least attempted, we lose touch with what makes a woman unique and what makes a man unique and lose touch with their purpose and function.

The most powerful tool, or rather impact, a woman has in a relationship is her INFLUENCE. If it is viewed that somehow this is not important, whereas sometimes it is inadvertently overlooked in the mere pursuit to survive, because of women emulating men then women lose their ultimate place of effectiveness, INFLUENCE.

Sure, women can compete and in some arenas excel with or beyond their male counterparts but a world with either men only or women only is a wrecked place.

So then, a woman not being ashamed to bare her distinction (as opposed to bearing her distinction as a burden) is truly powerful indeed same as if we openly show CHRIST as opposed to trying to assimilate the World are we then truly powerful. Therefore it is shown in our distinction rather living a separated (sanctified) life in CHRIST the true power of our testimony and acceptable glory unto the LORD is revealed. Whereas many see it a matter of awkwardness or labor in displaying a dissimilar lifestyle from that of the World it is necessary to do so that we may remain identifiable from those who are unregenerated in order that we might win some to JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Our strength is not like that of the World in bold statements through fashion, faddism (short-lived) or cultural idioms (embedded in ethnic identity) but exemplified in our resemblance to the Word of GOD in all of our dimensional aspects.

Just as a woman should be as womanly as she possibly can and in that she has influence to elevate her man among men [Proverbs 31:23] (same as a man should be manly according to the condemnation listed in I Corinthians 6:9 for a man being otherwise) a believer should “Look” like a believer as much as we possibly can so that no one gets the wrong idea of which side we stand and that we might delight our GOD.

It is found no clearer than as stated by the Apostle Peter in his First Epistle Chapter 2 and verse 9:

“ But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:”

Sadly, the strivings against the preserving of these distinctions in the natural is indicative of the strivings against the most scared of all eccentricity in the spirit realm. So do you choose to bare forth HIS Glory or do you bear it with contentions? Are you making the line as conspicuous as possible or are you equivocal and difficult to read? Make a Distinction! Show forth HIS Praise!

Shepherds vs. Hirelings

Screenshot_2014-06-08-23-25-43_1

After seeing a post on another social site I have been experiencing a resurrection of an inner churning, or maybe I should call it a yearning, to see true shepherds in the house of GOD in the time we now live in. It is amazing when we consider all the people that are preachers who travel from meeting to meeting many of whom are pastors of some congregation. There is more preaching today than ever! I wonder what would the Apostles Peter and Paul think if they could see the Christendom scene of the 20th and 21st Century church. There is TBN (Trinity Broadcast Network), The Word Network (which I’ve been told by an inside source isn’t owned by believers) and a plethora of programming on various other networks who fit the preaching of the word of GOD in between their regular programming (particularly on Sunday).

It is an awesome time to witness being able to share the Gospel of the LORD JESUS around the global simultaneously and ubiquitously. All faith starts with preaching as the bible tells us that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the [preached] word of GOD (Romans 10:17 para). The preaching of the cross is the “power of GOD to them who are saved” but “foolishness to them that perish” (1 Corinthians 1:18 ref). Preaching is imperative to the development of the believer as it serves as essential sustaining motivation to aid in keeping the believer’s eye stayed on the Cross of CHRIST especially in turbulent times. Preaching is absolutely necessary!

This entry is not to point out a problem with “preaching”, which is why I thought it necessary to first establish that preaching is indeed important for the growth and sustaining of the church. What I’d like to dare to venture into is a analyzing glance at a doldrums in the activity of “watching over GOD’s people”. In the book of Ezekiel the prophet receives a charge to serve the pastors over GOD’s flock Israel. The sovereign GOD tells Ezekiel, “2.Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Woe to you shepherds of Israel who only take care of yourselves! Should not shepherds take care of the flock? 3.You eat the curds, clothe yourselves with the wool and slaughter the choice animals, but you do not take care of the flock. 4.You have not strengthened the weak or healed the sick or bound up the injured. You have not brought back the strays or searched for the lost. You have ruled them harshly and brutally. 5.So they were scattered because there was no shepherd, and when they were scattered they became food for all the wild animals. 6.My sheep wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill. They were scattered over the whole earth, and no one searched or looked for them.” (Ezekiel 34:2-6)

In the text Yahweh was referring to the shepherds over the people Israel and stating what they should have been, what they have been and what they will be when the Good Shepherd shall appear.

Today, the case is much the same in so many instances as it was in the provided text from chapter 34 of Ezekiel. Even in light of all the preaching that people have access to there is more failing than there is lack of audio, video and literary material providing the preached Gospel of JESUS CHRIST. Today, people are not drawn away because of mass persecutions against the church. More than ever we read and hear of stories about faith-heroism in 3rd world and communist countries among believers that are facing threats and persecutions because of their faith in JESUS CHRIST. In the United States the Body of CHRIST suffers from top heavy ministries with puny foundations as it relates to watching over the flock of GOD.

There are times when sheep go astray and the shepherd has to venture out into dangerous places to recover the lost. I’ve heard it said time and time again when hearing of someone that has left the church that “they just didn’t want to be saved”. In some cases there are a few people that make up in their mind that the holiness lifestyle or culture is just not for them; but far too often there are people that began to have issues in their life and there was no watchman sounding an alarm. I’ve often heard leadership refer to the scripture in Hebrews where it states “Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves…” (Hebrews 13:17 ref) when calling for believers to revere the office of pastor, which everyone should; among various circles I have had the privilege of fellowship with, I have rarely heard the critique of the lack of covering the flock as a reason why some are stolen away in the mouths of wild beast of the field. This challenge is not a bash against pastors who preach, teach and watch over the flock of GOD with a servants heart, no! This is something that I hope you view as a “shake me up” for those who do not cover the flock nor do they watch and sound the alarm when the sword comes (Ezekiel 33:6) leaving the flock to fend for themselves beyond the preached word.

Unfortunately, many people in Christian leadership positions do not disciple those in their congregation nor do they engage interventions in people’s lives who sit under their charge. As a result of lethargic or self-comfort seeking ministerial lack of activity the people’s lives are littered with casualties. The destroyer comes with the sword, and as a ballplayer needing a coach because of their limited view of the field many believers are “taken in their sin” (Ezekiel 33:6) because there was no intervention or spiritual voice while they were in a valley experience.

We live in a nation where personal responsibility is scarcely embraced and blame is frequently attributed to others for the mess that we ourselves are in. In the Church of the living GOD there is personal responsibility on both sides that often gets swept under the rug. This is not a ploy to propose that the layperson bears no responsibility in straying from a lifestyle of sanctification but a highlighter to admonish those who may fit the description of having a ministry that has much to be desired in the way of being a watchman over souls sounding the alarm when the sword of the destroyer is in sight and engaging the flock committed to their charge–not to Preach Only!

Wish-washy wishing

Wishing is supposing. Though it can be a stepping stone, it is not faith but a notion. Saying that you “wish” something is admission that you doubt it to begin with because you’re too afraid to say “I believe”!

Bruised reeds

Some people carry around a desire looking for a good reason to give up everyday (physical, mentally, emotionally, spiritually), even for some, while appearing to have achieved success. There are pressures in life that many people are failing to process through and find themselves stuck in an enduring inner conflict. While they yet appear to function, inside they are crumbling to pieces.
The many cases of school shootings and even shootings in theaters and bombs set off in places like the Boston Marathon are signs of a society under a pressure cooker environment that is seething beneath a cloak of seeming normality.

I have learned that we should always start out our social interactions making sure those we are communicating to are well. Not the usual salutation of “how are you” while passing by without stopping to listen for the answer to the question, but genuine concern demonstrated without criticizing, judging or assuming before understanding a person’s condition in general contact while as well giving the benefit of the doubt and trying to comprehend the motivation and history of a person in matters of conflict i.e. just because a person is thrice late doesn’t mean nothing legitimate happened because you expected different (expecting them to be on time).
Patience, longsuffering, kindness are all attributes of love as found in 1 Corinthians chapter 13. JESUS said “By this shall all [men] know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” (John 13:35 KJV).

All the more in these times Christians particularly need to exercise love and tolerance. Too often, unfortunately that at all, there is exceptance of bullishness among believers and ego. While so many among us are bruised reeds it is imparitive that we are prejudice against impatience, wrath and the such among the Body of CHRIST. Whether a parent dealing with a child, the Bible says not to provoke them to wrath (Ephesians 6:4); or concerning a husband toward his wife, the word of GOD says to entreat her as the weaker vessel (1 Peter 3:7); and regarding the wife the holy writ commands that she reverence her husband (Ephesians 5:33); further we are told to love our neighbor as ourselves which shrouds every other command regarding our social responsibility to one another and people in general (Mark 12:31).

In the house of mercy (Bethesda), Mercy should always be found. Be mindful that we all are surrounded by bruised reeds and smoking flaxes, take care to quench or break none of them!

Can “Love” ever actually have NO conditions or basis??? (Thought Provoker)

We hear the constant tote of the concept of “unconditional love” when referring to true love or the love of the Creator (the Yahweh GOD). I have always tried to see things from angles that perhaps have seldom been explored and the thought ran through my mind, as it were, “is there actually any love that is truly without condition?” While exploring this I am pressed to consider perhaps what is meant when we tag the GOD-love as being without condition.

First, a condition would be understood as a term or stipulation to meet in order to receive some benefit or desired outcome. Yes folks! I get it! For that aspect of a condition I agree that, of course, the Jehovah GOD does not love us because we fulfilled a term or stipulation through effort, however we do all meet a CRITERIA which is also representative of a type of condition; we all are a product of Him!

There is nothing that is that He didn’t create. There is no existence without Him. The GOD of creation lifts up His word above everything else about Him i.e. even His name (Psalm 138:2), and mankind along with the rest of creation is a product of the Creator’s own word! He can be angry and despise dispositions but His ultimate expression is love toward us. In this I propose that GOD “so loved the world” because of something, because we are a product of Him.

Often we hear and witness in many ways people exchanging vows and gestures of love and hardly ever if they are asked will they express that they love the person strictly for NO REASON. When most people verbally express love they preference it with a because. Whether to say “because of the way you think”, “because of the time we’ve known one another” or even simply “because you’re GOD’s creation” are all expressions of a love object’s fulfillment of a condition.

Is there at all truly a love without condition? Does GOD Himself love without condition? Is there not a “because” to every affinity and a “why” for every embrace? We are the work of GOD’s hand, therefore could He help to not love us would He not then despise Himself? There is always a condition, some menial, some sentimental and some principled in nature but all for some reason.

I believe a better description of unconditional love (Agape Love) is a love that loves through and through regardless of faults and offenses. It loves beyond the point of friendship or other affinities, it loves on the condition that someone or something is; upon this proposal it cannot be referred to as “unconditional love” but merely an endure love established upon the most basic condition of existence. #ceburnsjr
